Technology and first test
Meet Arcstone: PT Architecture Stone Group manufactures foundations near Lovina, North Bali. The engineer defines the design; the installer reads the pile schedule, drawings and acceptance criteria. Follow the load path from building to grillage, head, shaft, helix and soil. Never select capacity by diameter alone.
The pile and how it works
What is a screw pile?
A steel shaft with a helical plate is screwed into the ground. The pile transfers loads to soil. Capacity depends on its configuration, ground conditions and installation quality.
No concrete curing period
The steel pile does not need concrete to cure. Loads may be applied after installation and connections are checked in accordance with the design. Weather and site conditions can restrict work.
Three pile components
Shaft: Ø76, Ø89 or Ø114 mm. Helix: the helical plate near the tip. Head: the connection to the grillage. The design specifies the configuration; installers do not select it on site.
Installation resistance
A change in resistance may indicate different soil or an obstruction. An operator’s impression does not establish capacity. The engineer specifies measurements and acceptance criteria.
A connected system
The grillage connects piles and distributes loads according to the design. Arcstone’s standard concept uses paired channels. There is always a pile head between the shaft and the grillage.
Day assignment
Explain the system and identify which decisions must be referred to the engineer. Complete the first test below.
